Designs The legal framework for protection of designs and utility models in the EU.

This field contains the basic for EU-wide protection of designs, Regulation No 6/2002 of 12 December 2001 on Community designs and the Regulation No 2245/2002 of 21 October 2002 implementing the 6/2002 Regulation as well as important regulations concerning fees and procedural rules. The Directive 98/71/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 October 1998 on the legal protection of designs are also included.

 

The Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) is the EU agency responsible for registering trademarks and designs that are valid in all EU Member States. Its task is to promote and manage the Community Trade Mark (CTM) and Community designs. OHIM carries out registration procedures, maintains the public register of relevant IP rights and holds proceedings of appeal. It is legally, administratively and financially independent and is based in Alicante, Spain.
