EU-China roving seminars on the Registered Community Design system in China

18 and 20 January 2011, Hangzhou and Kunming

 

IPR2, together with China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the Office for Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OHIM) held two one-day seminars on the EU's Registered Community Design (RCD) protection system with the aim of building the knowledge of Chinese industry and IP professionals investing in design protection, and as part of realising the use of IPR as a strategic tool for business development.

EU-China seminar on trademark quality

9 December 2010, Beijing

IPR2, together with the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) and the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM), held a seminar for officials from the Trademark Office of SAIC (CTMO) on trademark quality, including the regrouping of trademark examiners. The seminar benefited from the joint contributions from SAIC and OHIM on the respective Chinese and European procedures and also included a short intervention from industry.

EU-China workshops: follow-up of Comparative Study on design registration

2-3 December 2010, Beijing

IPR2, together with the Office for the Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OHIM) and China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) held two one-day follow-up workshops to its Comparative Study on design registration: a process in which both sides made a respective evaluation of the other’s operations and drafted recommendations and proposals for the future. The comparative study had identified a number of key areas for future co-operation, which included IT issues such as e-filing and electronic appeal mechanisms.

EU-China seminar on new issues relating to trademark applications

20-21 September 2010, Beijing

 

In co-operation with the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) IPR2 supported the organisation of a seminar for officials from the Trademark Office (CTMO) and the Trademark Review Adjudication Board (TRAB) of SAIC, as well as industry representatives,  on new issues related to registration of trademarks, namely bad faith trademark filings.

Introducing the European Community Trademark System

3 September 2010, Shanghai

IPR2, together with the EU’s Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (Trademarks and Designs) and with the support of the State Administration of Industry and Commerce of China, held a workshop to introduce the European trademark system to Chinese officials and industry. As part of the ‘IPR2 days’ at the World Expo Shanghai 2010, the workshop helped to promote the importance of Intellectual Property as an asset to be protected.

EU-China study tour on trademark registration and judicial review

 5-12 June 2010, Spain and Germany

With the support of IPR2, 6 officials from the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) went on a study tour to Spain, Luxembourg and Germany, to build knowledge on the European trademark system and support an exchange of expertise between Chinese and European officials and judges on emerging trademark registration and judicial review issues. The visit informed China’s decision makers and leaders on trademark registration and protection trends in Europe; and helped to build the technical capacity of all institutions involved handling trademark cases. Tin particular, the detailed exchanges served to review the latest trends in the different policy and production areas of SAIC and the Office for Harmonisation for the Internal Market (OHIM), Europe’s trademark and design office.

IPR2, together with the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM), the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and China’s Trademark Office under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) held two one-day seminars in Madrid and Munich on China’s trademark system. The workshop helped to raise awareness among more than 100 European trademark holders and IP practitioners and provided the opportunity to hear directly from Chinese officials on trademark protection mechanisms.

Roving workshops on the Community Trademark and 3-dimensional designs Print

Officials from local offices of the Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) and local industry participated in a series of workshops on the EU’s Community Trademark and 3-dimensional mark systems, organised in the framework of IPR2, together with the EU’s Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) and China’s Trademark Office under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC). The workshops helped to raise awareness of the CTM system and e-business tools among users and potential users in China and provided an opportunity for existing users to share their experience.

European right holders and IP practitioners participated in a one-day workshop in Brussels on the Chinese trademark system, organised in the framework of IPR2, by the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) together with China’s Trademark Office under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC). The workshop helped to raise awareness among European right holders on the Chinese system for protecting trademarks and gave participants the opportunity to hear directly from Chinese officials about China’s trademark protection mechanisms.

IPR2 in collaboration with the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) held a workshop to compare procedures on the examination of trademarks, in particular ex officio relative grounds examination and relative grounds examination upon request. Three experts from the EU's Office of Harmonisation for the Internal Market (OHIM), UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) covered the trademark examination system in the EU, the changes in the UK and Spain and provided a closer look at the Community Trademark system.

International forum on implementation of the national IP strategy, symposium on trademark protection and revision of the Trademark Law Print

In co-operation with the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC), IPR2 helped to support an international forum on the implementation of China's National IP Strategy, in the context of its ongoing revision of the Trademark Law, and a trademark protection symposium looking at how Chongqing can further develop as a national model for IP protection.

Launch of an EU-China Comparative Study on Design Registration Print

9-13 March, Beijing  & 23-27 March 2009, Alicante, Spain

A “Comparative Study on Design Registration” has been launched in the framework of the IPR2 Project. Experts from the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) met with the State Intellectual Property office (SIPO) in Beijing, the organisation in charge of registering designs in China, to better understand the management of design procedures, from the reception of a design application to registration as well as invalidation procedures. A delegation of SIPO officials visited OHIM in Alicante, Spain the following week for further first-hand analysis of the European systems and practices.

Comparative study on trademark registration study visit Print
1-5 December 2008, Spain

A delegation of seven senior officials from the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), the Chinese Trade Mark Office (CTMO) and the Trade Mark Review and Adjudication Board (TRAB), launched a “comparative study on trademark registration” with a study visit to the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) in Alicante, Spain, supported by IPR2. Co-operating closely with OHIM, this is part of a benchmarking activity that aims to further increase understanding of trademark operations and processes for the benefit of users in Europe and in China.

EU-China Trademark Consultation Workshop Print

IPR2 supported China's Trademark Office (CTMO) in developing an effective trademark legislative framework with a consultation workshop. European experts from the EU's Office of Harmonisation for the Internal Market's (OHIM) provided a comprehensive introduction on the EU's strategies and best practice on trademark-related issues.
