EU-China IP Working Group 2010

24 June 2010, Beijing

The 6th meeting of the EU-China IP Working Group was held in support of the EU-China IP Dialogue and focused on patent-related issues and developments. The EU-China IP Dialogue, a structured political exchange between the European Union and China on IP, is reinforced by regular IP Working Group meetings, which enables industry and other right holders to participate in bilateral IP discussions.

New legal platform for intellectual property in the EU

Senior Officials from the European Commission, the European Union Delegation to China, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, and academic representatives from Peking University came together on Wednesday to launch the ‘Europe IP Law Search’ – a new addition to the widely-used legal search tool, ‘China IP Law Search‘. Support to 6th EU-China IP Dialogue 2010

8-9 April 2010, Beijing

The 6th EU-China IP Dialogue took place in Beijing over two days, co-chaired by Ms Ewa Synowiec, Director, DG Trade in the European Commission and Ms. Li Ling, Director-General, Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Commerce of P.R. China. The Dialogue continues the EU and China’s relationship on IP-related issues giving both sides the opportunity to exchange their views on developments with Europe and China’s respective IPR policy, update on progress made and consider the way forward on key action areas such as trademarks, copyrights, patents, geographical indications, innovation and standardisation, plant variety protection and indigenous-innovation products.

New legal platform for intellectual property in China Print

Senior Officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the Delegation of the European Commission to China together with senior academics from Peking University inaugurated the China IP Law Search, a new platform of laws and regulations related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property in China. More than 80 representatives of government, industry, law firms, academics, students and the press gathered at Peking University to learn how China IP law Search could contribute to their daily work. www.ipr2.org/ipsearch

Support to EU-China IP Dialogue 2009 Print

The 5th EU-China IPR Dialogue took place in Brussels over two days and co-chaired by Ms Ewa Synowiec, Director, DG Trade in the European Commission and Ms. Li Ling, Director-General,  Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Commerce of P.R. China. The Dialogue continues the EU and China’s relationship on IP-related issues giving both sides the opportunity to exchange their views on developments with Europe and China’s respective IPR policy, update on progress made and consider the way forward on key action areas such as trademark law, music content censorship, and licensing agreements and standards in the ICT sector.

EU-China high-level forum on co-operation for strengthening IPR protection and enforcement: results presented to European industry Print

6 March 2009, Brussels

High-level officials from China and the EU met in Brussels to update stakeholders in Europe on EU-China co-operation towards strengthening intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and enforcement. The forum was opened by Martin Tlapa, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Commerce of the Czech Republic, Peter Balas, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's DG Trade, and Assistant Minister Chong Quan from the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM). The Assistant Minister, together with leading officials from China’s patent, copyright and customs enforcement authorities provided an overview of China’s National IP Strategy. A review of the EU-China IPR2 Project's first year of implementation and new activities foreseen in the coming year was given, as part of hearing how EU-China policy is achieving results in practice. Stakeholder Briefing: IPR Protection and Enforcement in China: A new EU-China Co-operation Print

17 April 2008, Brussels


The first Stakeholder Briefing for IPR2 was held in Brussels by the EPO and the European Commission. IPR2 was presented to more than 80 Europe-based stakeholders for the first time as a new co-operation initiative between the EU and China to help improve the effectiveness of IPR enforcement in China. Ewa Synowiec, Director for Intellectual Property in DG Trade and Gérard Giroud, Principal Director for International Affairs at the EPO gave an outline of the new cooperation project to representatives of the EPO member states, industry and IP experts from European institutions. Ms Synowiec underlined the importance of the IPR2 project: "China is a priority country for the European Commission for co-operation in IP. The new project provides an excellent opportunity for moving towards enforcement at all levels in China." She acknowledged the EPO's expertise in international cooperation and the long standing relationship between the EC and the EPO in the field of IP.
